What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
Cognitive means thinking and cognitive therapy focuses on changing thinking patterns and beliefs. Behavioral Therapies are those anchored in what we do. Biopsychosocial adds in the physical (bio) component to the cognitive (psycho) aspect and the environmental components in the (social).

All of this adds up to a multi-faceted approach to change, one where the balance between the different aspects is important and every part needs to be considered.

Can you give me an example of what you mean?
Yes. You aren't drinking anymore, aided, perhaps, by anti-craving medications (bio), you're doing counseling around your high stress problems (cognitive), you're going to the gym to work off some energy and regain some health (behavioral), and you are no longer spending time in various bars or with some of your old drinking buddies(social).

Each of these changes creates a new balance in your life along with new opportunities and challenges. Planning is necessary, and coaching, and putting systems and schedules into place to see you through the first days, weeks, and months. It takes time to work your way back. Not forever, but awhile. A year is a good target.

Will the program be difficult?
No, it won't be difficult but it won't all be easy or fun either. Though, enough of it will be, to keep you moving forward. You will be surprised at how interesting creating a new life can be when it's your life and not someone's marketing model (like 12 step programs). It will be exciting too.
